Real-Life Impacts of Climate Change

The ocean is an integral part of everyone's lives, whether that's the weather in coastal regions, marine-related jobs and industries, or the life that thrives in the ocean. The effects of climate change is not just affecting the fabric of the ocean and the crucial systems that keeps our ecosystem in tact, it also has adverse effects on people across the planet.

Impacts relating to our climate are widespread and NOC science and research aims to reach that scope by learning about the effect these changes are having to life on land and in the ocean. In particular, coastal communities tend to bare the brunt of these changes, as well as the marine life that depends on ocean systems to live.

NOC's Climate Mission

Studying the ocean helps us understand what’s happening to our climate, where tipping points may be reached, and how the impacts will unfold across the globe—from rising sea levels to shifting weather extremes.
